I have a newer Maytag tall tub whose performace was stellar in cleaning until recently. The dishes were just not clean, had spots of food and did not seem rinsed in some places, even though I used the sani cycle. I thought it was a problem with the motor/pump/impeller assembly and I called a repairman/technician for Maytag. He asked me if I had switched detergents, which I had from standard Cascade to those Cascade tablets with Dawn grease cutting detergent. What a stupid product, it caused suds lock on my diswasher bottom as he demonstated, that totally impared the circulation of the machine. After draining and getting rid of the suds, we used standard Cascade and the thing was running and cleaning like before. It was stupid of Cascade to pair with Dawn, sink diswashing and diswashers are entirely diffrent dynamics and the detergents are entirely different in their performance under the mixed conditions of a dishwasher. Those space age capusules suck, dont use them. A good old non suds powder is what you need.

ive used cascade 2n1 action pacs for about a year now and its the best dishwasher detergent ive ever used and it doesnt suds
up.It doesnt actually have dawn in it ,it just says with the power of dawn as a selling point . It was also rated #1 in consumer reports mag...

It's called

Marketing!

Cascade is a leading brand (maybe #1?) in automatic dishwashing. (I have heard people say "and yeah, get me a box of store brand Cascade"!)

Dawn is a leading brand in hand dishwashing.

One thing you can always say about P & G--no matter what, they are brilliant marketers.

(I'm sticking with plain Cascade Pure Rinse powder.)

I, too, saw CR's report and have been using the Wal-Mart brand in my Bosch. Does a wonderful job and cost less.

It's always great to get something that does the job and you save money at the same time.

Not just for your dishwasher anymore.

....and if you can't get phosphated detergents, good old-fashioned DW powders (they have phosphates!!!)make a great whites pre-wash!

NOTE: Not for colors; removes dyes like the Dickens.

Beware also of DW gels/liquids, they are loaded with clay to get the needed consistency. IMHO, bad news!

I have always used Cascade with Dawn since they came out. They work great in my KA Superba Classic and my Frigidaire Gallery. Due to the advice of this forum I also use Cascade Complete powder. I always have great reults from both and I am not a pre-rinser, just scrape and load and let sit for 2 days until it is a full and run the normal cycle. I was told over the years by the repairmen from GE, KA, and Frigidaire to only use the tabs and NEVER use the ligui-gel or powder. But what is so ironic is GE just came out the the Profile DW that you can store a whole bottle of Liquid in the door.

A friend of mine used liquid DW detergent and he'd complain about poor results. I told him it wasn't his DW, but probably the detergent. He switched over to Cascade powder and that solved the problem. I don't think manufacturers have a winning formula for liquid DW detergents, yet.

You paid how much for that education, malaka?

I worked with high- fallutin' ATTORNEYS who used to load-up the office DW-ers with (hand-wash) dish liquid. There was a suds-cake more than once.

Book-smart yes.
life-smart, er.... maybe not.

I had the same problem with...

The Electrosol Tabs w/ JetDry. I have a Maytag JetClean dishwasher ca.1999 and had switched from my regular Cascade to the Electrosol tabs. Well one night after dinner I started the dishwasher and while the machine was in the main wash phase it began making an odd noise. It sounded as though the pump was starting to run dry. Then I noticed very little water circulation. Then nothing but a humm coming for the motor. I opened the door and what did I behold? About 2" of suds in the bottom and no water left! I just stood there for a minute in disbelief. After I got over the shock and horror I added some water to the tub and drained the machine. Then ran it thru 2 Rinse Only cycles to get rid of the suds. Luckily I had some Cascade left and immeadiately went back to that. Never had that problem since. Besides, it always felt wrong not to have detergent in the Prewash cup when using a cycle that had a prewash.

Cheers,

Chris

This sounds so much like my oldest sister. When we all lived at home, we had finaly got a portable GE Potscrubber in 1976. My sister had some similar events. A few times she turned it on and went to do others things and later came back to the kitchen to find the DW finished but full of nice baked on food. She hooked it up turned it on but never turned on the water. Nice DRY Cleaned dishes. The other times we came back to the kitchen with a flood. This time she turned the water on but we had a batch feed garbage disposal that you turned the sink stopper to start. When you turned the disposal off turning it farther to the direction of the off position closed up the holes in the stopper so you could fill the sink. she closed up the drain and when the DW emptied she flooded the kitchen. Suprisingly she never put handwashing dish soap in it.

Cascade

I have used the Cascade with Dawn. It is okay. I like the Cascade Powder better, or the Wal-Mart brand. The problem with the packet, is that it is only in the main wash. I think I get better cleaning with detergent in bot cups.

Nope, the water in my area is medium hard (or medium soft, depending on how you look at it). Since I grew up using Cascade and therefore eschew it, I prefer Electrosol tablets without the Jet-Dry ball. I recently purchased a shopping cart full of rejects from the true closeout store here in town and ended up with a bottle of Cascade orange gel and about 500 Electrosol tabs. This version of Cascade is ok, but I think the E-tabs do a better job.

Re: Dishwasher Detergents, prior Posting Thread:

I've more recently {late last year} Posted about my using the Wal-Mart Great Value Powdered Dishwasher Detergent and I've got great results from it. I'm quite happy with it, even over most other Brands.

I had a Retro-Fit Wiring Harness replacement on my Maytag Taller-Tub 2-Rack Dishwasher and the Service Tech advised me against using the Tablets, mainly because they are Pre-Measured, so you don't have control on the amount to use, for Smaller Loads, but I guess they would be all right for Full Loads.

Peace and Good Luck with Dishwasher Detergent searching, Steve

Auto D/W Detergent that does not Etch???

I'm listed in the 2nd, 14th and 15th Thread Posting there. I hope that these help you with deciding on which Dishwasher Detergent to try/use.

Casacde w/ Dawn

I, too, use Cascade with Dawn and I love it. It never leaves any food or residue on my dishes and no water spots either. I used to use the Electrasol with Jet Dry Ball but one time the store was out so I got the Cascade. I must say I do love to put it in the DW without having to take it out of the package. :)

I use Cascade com;lete, have ever since it appeared on the market. B4 that, it was Cascade Powder. I agree about the cleaning power of liquids vs powder. Friends of mine use Cascade Liquid in their Kenmore (WP) PowerClean. I've seen, with using Pots & Pans, stuff not come off their dishes that I now darn good and well would come off with Complete, but they won't listen. Yes, I'm the appliance expert (told them to buy that DW), but the house hubby has his own ideas and he won't budge, even tho I'm the expert to him.
