Christmas Dishwasher Loads

Just had a great idea of mine come up, especially now that I have my digital camera back (yay!!)...

As the Big Day inevitably produces lots of dirty dishes, how about we post pictures of our dishwasher loads throughout the big day? I currently have a load of glasses, some mugs and a few plates in the dishwasher from guests tonight which will be washed along with the breakfast dishes tomorrow morning, so I shall start from there .

OK, here's my first load of the day - wine glasses, tumblers, pint glasses, and cups from lastnight (we had A LOT!! of visitors), and also pots from breakfast this morning (croissants - yummy!)

Finish (known as Electrasol in the US) 4-in-1 Powerball Tab in dispenser:

Cycle selected - Sensor Wash Gentle as there's delicate wine glasses being washed, with 3-in-1 Tab option selected which adjusts the drying tab according to 3-in-1 or 4-in-1 tabs, which release their components at different times than if you used separate powder/salt/rinse aid etc.

Maximum running time is 1.44 - although as with most cycles the dishwasher will finish about 20 minutes sooner

Jon--- We are on the same wavelength; Santa brought me a new Maytag SS dishwasher, so I've been taking pictures it and the baked-on mess of pots and pans I've been putting in it. We'll see how everything turns out. I'll put them up here later today.

Thanks for posting the pics of your Miele! It's a beautiful machine. I like the cutlery rack.

Why are these so popular given their cost? I dare-say not as popular here.

Uh-oh. Do you mean a circuit board for the new Maytag dishwasher? I already had to deal with that problem with my ex-dishwasher, the Frigidaire. I was just beginning to celebrate my escape from the world of Failing Electronics. SAY IT AIN'T SO, TOGGLE! SAY IT AIN'T SO!

Load 2

This is the real tester load - the roasting pans & oven trays! What I like about the Miele dishwasher is that the upper basket is designed to be removed so that you can wash taller items like this. The bottom spray arm does most of the work, whilst the spray arm from the top of the machine that usually diverts water over the cutlery does the same job as the middle basket spray arm would do - i.e. rinsing water over the top of the pans so dirt doesn't collect in ridges etc.

Toggle - over here we have dishwasher tablets that contain more than one component - 2 in 1 tabs contain detergent and rinse aid, 3 in 1 tabs contain detergent, rinse aid, and salt, 4 in 1 tabs contain detergent, rinse aid, salt, and glass protector, whilst 5 in 1 tabs contain detergent, rinse aid, salt, glass protector, and stainless steel shine. We usually use Glist 5 in 1 (read Somat), but we have Finish at the moment because it came with a free tin to keep your dishwasher tablets in .

Popularity

Miele dishwashers aren't that popular in the UK, it's more or less the brand that peopel who like their appliances go for. We only went with the Miele because it was £100 more than the fully integrated AEG equivalent, and £150 more than the fully integrated Whirlpool and Bosch equivalents, and thought what the hell seeming as this dishwasher would probably outlast any other brand anyway.

The most popular dishwasher in the UK at least seems to be Bosch, very nice machines but, as with even AEG dishwashers, the quality isn't up there with Miele.

Upper Rack

Hi Jon,

The manual for my G2220 states specifically that you must not operate without the upper and lower racks in place.

The lack of upper spray arm increases the water flow up at the mid rack and reduces the pressure at the lower spray arm.

Does your manual state to remove the upper rack for large loads? (maybe it is allowable due to the smaller tub size) Or has the easy removability of the smooth running rack on its ball bearing runners talked you into it?

On another note, I've orded the finer filter screen for my Miele, to try and catch the things that keep clogging the pump. Luckily they make it user serviceable to clear the blockage, but for $6 it seemed like a trouble saver.
