Removing The Top Rack From A KA KDS-18 DW

It should not hurt anything, just keep an eye on the DW, When we have removed the top rack from WP PC DWs with the rear feed tube the rush of water will cause the DW to leak a little under the door, but I don't think a KA will do this, WP PC has much stronger top water pressure.

 

Has anyone here tried this on a KA 18-22?

I experimented with this on my KDS-18 and and had very poor results. Next, I made 2 attempts at jamming a rubber stopper in the upper rack water orifice tube against the back wall. It blew it out immediately on both occasions. Following that, I tried jamming the stopper backwards (It took every ounce of strength I had). That lasted about 4-6 seconds on all 3 attempts before shooting it out again. Threw in the towel.

If one has the space, I recommend purchasing a one arm wonder KD-17 or older unit and removing the upper rack.

Water diverter

 

<span style="font-family: helvetica;">My last Bosch dishwasher came with a water diverter for this purpose.  With this one it is an accessory you can purchase.  You screwed it over the opening and it directed the water away from the door.  Too bad there isn't something like this for all machines that have this kind of set up.</span>

Thanks John. I'll keep an eye on it. I am washing a splatter shield I purchased to help protect the real panel of the Caloric. It measures about 33" X 17". Perhaps I can place it in a way that it disrupts the stream from the top wash arm orifice.

Good Sized Load

But its hard to see how dirty the dishes were, If they are fairly clean with you fairly soft water I would not use much more than 1 Tb of detergent in each cup to minimize damage to the machine or YOUR dishes.

No dark based sauces were used. I figured the load wouldn't show up as too soiled. Nevertheless thanks for the dosage advice.

Today I used the Normal cycle instead of the Soak and Scrub cycle that I normally use. I noticed only the prewash compartment activated. The normal wash compartment remained closed. Everything came out clean. Is this normal for a KDS-58?

Detergent Dispenser Not Oping On A KDS-18

No, Hopefully the Bi-Metal activator is just out of adjustment.

 

It could also be a tight shaft or bad BM or a wire burned off the BM.

 

If the main pump motor is not drawing enough watts it may not open either, usual causes are low water fill, clogged fine mesh filter or even a bad wash arm support.

Working Detergent Dispenser, Yay

Glad that helped, This is why I never want another DW with a filter, my KDSS-20 worked quite well but it often started to smell from all the stuff left on the filter.

 

I did discover at one point that the little hole on the bottom of one of the wash arm spokes that is supposed to help rinse stuff off the outside of the filter was blocked, once I cleaned it it helped a lot in keeping some of the stuff off the filter.

 

I still have a KDS-16 and a KD5 portable in my homes that get used a few times a year each, but the 4 DWs I use on a regular basis are all WP Power-Clean machines.

Well now. This happened today. The pre-wash door on the detergent dispenser failed to open during a cycle. The main wash door operates correctly. I can open the pre-wash door manually, but I noticed it felt like the spring assembly was no longer engaged. So another thing I have to look into during this hyper busy period.
