Jeff, the thermo-trip bimetal clips for the soap dispenser are very important to the proper operation of the machine. They are wired in series with the windings of the motor and the machine will NOT work properly if either one or both are burned out. They should be a part that is still stocked at your local parts supply, I bought a couple here about a year ago for my KDS-18. If you cant locate any let me know, I may have a couple of extra , or may be able to purchase some for you locally. Jimmy

ok so..

I need bi-metal thingys. The one for the main wash looks ok, but maybe I should replace both?

I knew it was a problem with the pre-wash part of the cycle, that was where the motor cut out, and last night I noticed that the pre-wash detergent cup did not open in the cycle.
Swapping out timers today cinched it, at least the timer is good, and I have an extra one should I ever need it.

Repair clinic has what I need. I will order two and replace both.

Hoover, replace the bad one and get a spare! or replace them both and save the old one as a spare!

Let either of us know if you cant get them locally! But seeing how popular they are, you should not have any problem getting them from Whirlpool or a place like Marcone.

At least it is nothing serious and a reasonably easy fix.
I'll see about getting some of these things locally first. They are kinda pricey from RepairClinic.
