Recent find was a bit awkward. The snow storm threat on Wednesday presented itself on the day planned for pick up. Also the party selling, whom I'd only talked with once, seemed a bit "strange".
From the North suburbs of St. Paul, it was dry as can be and I started my trip South on 35W, into Minneapolis. I don't like to drive (in general) but in snowy conditions it makes me nervous. Everything was fine and dry, then about 2 miles from location, the snow line was breached, and the snow started flying. Soon there was slush on the roadway and people were driving as if this weather wasn't happening. Add to this, driving in an area I haven't been before. The snow was about 2" at this point.
I arrive a few blocks from where the address is near the VA hospital, but simply can not figure out how to get there. I call the person, who generally seemed friendly. In fact a bit TOO friendly. Anyway, he claims he's home and offers to meet me. Well 20 minutes in and he hasn't arrived. I'm getting suspicious.
I leave to attempt to find the address as I think I understand what I've done wrong. The slush and snow is really coming down. I drive really slow. I find the address, knock on the door, no one home. I've already called him to let him know I've found the address and he agrees he's coming back. Literally, it was only about 5 blocks away. Yet he claims it will be about 20 minutes?
I wait, suspicious, anxious, and getting p.o.'d. He actually arrives after about 15 minutes and I realize... all is fine. Like most of us, he isn't perfect and in fact has some "issues" (learning disabilitys and slight mobility issues), but he is fully functioning.
His gestures of friendship and excessive conversation were legit.
<span style="text-decoration: underline;">Lesson for the day</span>: Hope we all know this and it serves as a mere reminder. That person ahead of you in traffic may be going slow and its pissing you off, or someone may be slow in some other situation in your daily life and it doesn't seem to fit in. There may well be a valid reason. They are doing <span style="text-decoration: underline;">the best they can</span>.
Anyway, He had recently purchased a cute home and it came with a "huge dryer" he didn't need. He initially wanted to barter for something but we agreed on a price. He even helped me load it.
It's a 1979 Kenmore contractors series dryer in harvest gold. It has the unique wood paneled console which I've only seen in person once. It appears to be a 1979 model and has had very little usage. It does have some minor scorching from the gas burner on the back wall of the drum. All else needs wipe down and polish.
It was a good day. I made a friend whom I complimented and thanked several times for his help.
