Love that 70s basement

Where did you get this totally cool 70s basement? So Upbeat, progressive, and just totally COOL.
Anyday, it beats the current downbeat, regressive, "lets recreate the (dank) 1940s" style of decorating that repuk-licans have brought with them in the last 4 years.

Hey,

Are you reffering to my basement that I have? I know that you seen pic's of it over in the other forum. My partner and I have redone our house and my sister happened to come up for a very short visit from Detroit and I snapped off a few pic's of my vacuums, that I wanted to use as screen savers because im weird like that....

My basement took most of this last summer to create in fact. We started on it in March and I was done by the 4th of July when ihad a crapload of company. Everything except the couch was found at local Goodwills, Volunteers Of America's, a Valueland (Thrift Store), Salvation Army. Nothing down there cost me more than $100.00 at a time.

The stereo console, was found at goodwill with a tag of $11.99 on it. The endtables were $5.00 each. The lamps were in a dollar pile. The lava lamps are from my collection of ten years or better and they all cost me quite a pretty penny, especially the largest one. The carpet was the most expensive part of the renovation, but it's a moisture and mold proof woven material, so it was perfect for the basement.

The 1-18's are now at my brothers house as he needs a set for he and his wifes new twin sons and her old set was dying bad and they were rusty loud and disgusting early 80's BOL GE's. Because they are just starting out, and poor as hell, I gave them the 1-18's as a "blessed even present". But not to worry...tho; I have a line on another older set in poppy that Im working on.

But now the 1-18's are in Flint w/ them.

All I have left are the Spacemates, and my Frigidaire FL set. So anyway I will get a few shots of them when she comes up for Thanksgiving, and I'll post them up so you can all see them.....

Thank goodness for the Goodwill and other thrift stores, The only place I really get good stuff! Most antique stores around here have stuff thats been carried to every flea market in the country and they could`nt sell the over priced junk. And the yard sales around here are all the same avon bottles and baby clothes and ocasionally a good peice but rarely a great find, like my vintage Iorns for a dollar and I just found a pink one for $2.00 Yaaa!

Glad those 1-18s are in a good place where someone needs them and they can get use!

But be sure to send your brother an outer "water" bellows every once in a while so they last his family a long time!

On Frigidaire 1-18's....

I will be going up to Flint at Christmas and I will have my sister bring her camera...so i'm sure that I can still get a picture of them. Right now, tho I'm in negotiations with a freind of my great aunts who has an older 1975 set in Poppy. It does have the glass window, lighted control panel (which my other set did not have) and the dryer is MORE deluxe than the 79 as it has an auto dry I believe, it's control panel is ALSO lighted.

I ordered a Bellows from a local parts house here in Lansing, a few months ago, and while it was TECHNICALLY the last one,I was told that while Frigidire HAS discontinued them...that there is an aftermarket company supposedly out there that will still make the bellows Has anyone else heard this?. I had a NOS bellows put in this set that my brother now has, before I brought it home,and becasue I used it every now and then, should still be nice and supple.

I made very clear instructions for them on how to MANITAIN this set and HOW TO USE THEM, as I nver had any instruction manuals with them.

I made it unfallibly clear to them not to wash anything with pins or nails in them...so my brother being a contractor, will have to be careful NOT to wash his stuff with a loose nail in the pocket.

His wife, being rather simple in order thought that the things were bizarre, becasue she was so used to a old fashioned back and forth agitator...and now she see's up and down.However, she quickly fell in love with them when it washed about 50 or so soiled diapers in one load.

I did the trick where she put in a the VERY first load that they did with them, not to suprisingly a load of diapers, yeah she's old school and is using cloth, and I dropped a brown handtowel on top of the load as the machine was agitating , and she was just amazed the it was sucked down in to the bottom of the tub in les than a minute.

She also liked that the dryer dried them in about 30-35 minutes. She also likes the fact that their quieter and less obtrusive than her old GE FilterFLo's that were just beaten beyone resusitation.

Anyway, I will be able to get some pic's of the Spacemates by Thanksgiving time becasue I'm sure my sis will bring the camera to take pic's especially now that Devon and Dylan are going to be here at my house...(my nephews).'

Anyway, I still have a few Vacuum Cleaner pic's that I will post soon becasue I took a few more than what i have already posted...I have like five more machines that you will be able to see from my vac collection over in the other forum...

So keep track of them and if one day your brother & sister-in-law decide to get (ugh) new machines for whatever reason, you can re-claim the 1-18's. I loaned my '72 portable LK out to several people over the years who needed it with the stipulation that if their circumstances changed that the machine come back to me. Good thing, too, since now I'M the one who needs it, at least for a while.

Does anyone know who does this? I wonder if they make "oil" bellows as well as bellows for the Unimatics as well? We REALLY need more Frigidaire parts suppliers!
