Hi Guys! Well, I finally got my wishe(s).
For the last few months I had been longing to get a twin tub washer. Working and in GOOD condition of course.
After seeing PhilR's posting for the avocado green Maytag A50 washer & DE50 dryer, I serched Craiglist and Kijiji. It was my lucky week I think!!!
I found a Hoover Rinse-O-Matic had just been listed on CL, and on Kijiji I found another Maytag A50 in white AND........a hardly used Simplicity-(Speed Queen/Servis) in avocado green.
I searched back several months worth of ads and those were it. Other than a Hitachi and a Danby-but no thanks! Well a couple of weeks ago I went and looked at the white A50 and the Hoover. I put a deposit on the Hoover and the A50 was to be held for me until the 31st. I also went and looked at the Maytag avocoado green set as I mentioned in an earlier post.
As LUCK seems to have played itself out.....the Maytag owner wasn't around that week and 'forgot' about me. Since I had a friend with a van and had stuff to GET, I decided on the Simplicity. That was supposed to happen mid this month or next month. But he was selling it this saturday to a Friend if no one else came by then.
I got out there and got that thing for $160.00 (from $175.00 asking) and picked up the Hoover for $130.00 (from $150.00 asking) on the way back.
This Simplicity was THE score of the year for me. I think it saw maybe 10 washes in its beginnings of life and was put away and never, ever used again.
It is in absolutely PRISTINE condition with no rust, no gunk buildup under the tubs, barely even any cobwebs for cryin' out loud!
Not a sign of use except some water marks on the base plate and that's not a big deal.
I have washed about 15 loads so far and have really put it to the test with mixtures of heavy and light loads.
Since I have never used a Simplicity/Speed Queen twin tub before I am amazed at how much I had always underestimated these machines. I mean, it is a Speed Queen afterall!
Built like a tank and built to last!!!
I grew up with a Hoover twin tub and later our first automatic was an avocado green Speed Queen set-so I KNOW both these machines in their respective ways.
It's a true workhorse with that absolute unmistakeable sounding Speed Queen motor purring away and that transmission "click" sound on every stroke.
But I always thought the tub was too small for such a large agitiator and understimated it's spin speed.
It washes amazingly and the spin is indeed fast and spins out a lot of the water. The beauty though is it's quietness in spinning.
I was doing laundry up until 2 am in my apartment and no noise was transferred to the neighbours-it's just so quiet! And so is the pump.
And it rinses fantastically and quite thoroughly too.
So, I'll stop for now, and tell you about the Hoover in a few days when I get to it. The Simplicity has kept me so excited I haven't used the Hoover yet-it has a couple of issues I found when I tested it though so....................?!
I'll post pics of them a little later and with your encouragement, Videos!
The Hoover has a fun unique feature I have NEVER seen before.
And to my fellow Canadian Friends.
PhilR: thanks for the original post-you started it all.
unclejohn: Hello fellow Hoover lover!
barcoboy: CONGRATS on your recent Hoover acquisition. Love to hear how it all works out for you.
BradRoss(?) in New West: gorgeous Speed Queen TT you have.
And macboy91si: you have taught me a LOT, and I offer my thanks and my gratitude.
To all the rest: thanks for hearing my long winded story.
But you ALL know what it's like when you get that score-and you have to share it with like-minded Friends!
Pic(s) are what the seller had posted-not mine.
