Hmmm.

Looks like it may not be a dual action agitator on this model. Also, it sounds like it fills by alternating hot and cold with ATC for all cycles. With COVID-19 not going away anytime soon, it is ridiculous we cannot wash clothes with hot water. It is difficult to find Lysol laundry sanitizer, and I don't buy it these detergents work better in cooler temps. Try washing plates in barely warm water.

If this is true, the Maytag still holds the overall second favorite for me but first when it comes to cleaning. The dumbed down temp seems to only affect the Normal Eco cycle.

Someone here needs to head a kickstarter project to bring back the tried and true toploads.
 
Not dual action

You are correct that this machine doesn't use the dual action agitator. It uses the so called "heavy duty agitator" that the GTW330 uses. to be fair it does seem like a decent agitator.

The link is helpful. I agree. Decent agitation. I like the additional water level selection. It's a plus but having just two hasn't been an issue for. The ATC does concern me. I hope there is tap hot! That is my biggest concern. I cannot wait for reviews on this model. Thanks for sharing.

Maybe. But it definitely can make a difference getting certain types of grime out. Tap hot is a deal breaker for me. I want a way to disable it that doesn't require as much effort as I have invested in trying to get the Maytag's Normal Eco to work. Does anyone know if this a belt, direct drive, or??? I did not have time to look at parts list.

If I decide to go to a front load, I definitely will consider the SQ. I don't care if it has an internal heater as long as it does NOT have ATC and is well built. As long as the water comes to the bottom of the door, I'm OK with that. I adjusted my LG, so it did that. I could still open the door and put a sock in without water running on the floor. Is there a particular model I should look for? Does the SS stand for stainless steel?
 
Soap and Covid

Personally I think all this emphasis on washing hands is fine in general. However it's been shown than the virus is mostly spread through the air, in aerosols from breath/sneezes/coughs. So wearing face masks that cover mouth and nose is far more critical than just hand washing. Yes, hand washing is good for many reasons, but limiting the spread of Covid-19 isn't going to happen just by washing hands.

The reason for all this is the virus has a limited lifetime on hands and surfaces. A matter of hours. But when and infected someone speaks, yells, coughs, or sneezes, the aerosols produced are more likely to contain infectious viruses and to infect others who breathe them in.

Hand washing is probably more important to prevent the spread of infectious bacteria. Not respiratory viruses like Covid-19.
 
I know it's been a trend for years and not limited to washers, but I really, really hate undescriptive descriptors. What exactly do "Bulky Items" and "Deep Clean" mean? How are those cycles physically different from regular?

As for temps, thanks to everchanging ATC "Tap Cold" is the only label that actually says anything. Since we're stuck with ATC, how about some actual information like...... oh, I don't know...... maybe ... ... DEGREES!!! Seriously, what's wrong with 30, 60, and 90? Ok, fine . change it to Fahrenheit.

I couldn't agree more with both points. I can't stand the fact we got rid of actually usable cycles, like Wool and Hand Wash, in lieu of the nonsense they push on us now.
The temperature issue has always bothered me, especially considering that many manufacturers won't even list target temperatures in the manual, let alone the fact that Warm on Whites is hotter than, e.g. Hot on Colors etc.

However, there was an article recently that even European washers, which list temps in actual degrees, may not reach targets in order to conserve energy. IMO that's a lawsuit waiting to happen. If I choose 60C, I want 60C, not a longer 40C.
 
Euro washers not reaching temp

I can attest to this, I have a fair few contacts with European washer community members, and one has a Samsung that achieved 63 on a 90 cycle, and a Hoover that achieved 58, also on a 90 cycle.

That said, one collector had a modern Bosch that reached 85 on a 90, another had a Miele w1 that did similar, and another has an LG v9 that had a 95 cycle, and hit the full 95.
 
That reminds me of a funny incident.

A few months ago there was a problem with the hot water in my building that caused a building wide temp drop. I'm now on my 3rd apartment in this building and I never noticed any hot water temp change over the past 5 years.. The problem was fixed. Again, I personally didn't notice. A woman in my building complained at a recent meeting that the washers were running HOTTER than they used to and as a result some of her delicates were ruined.

What's funny is that I have items made of nylon, elastane, polyamide, etc. I also have 100% wool items. Since Covid hit I have washed all these items in hot and have dried on the highest heat setting. I've yet to have a single item get damaged in any way.

It makes me want to run around and check the temps of all 60 washer and all 60 dryers in the building.
