New LG Front Loader: 4. cu. ft. with Steam Generator

This morning I checked out local newspapers. Here in San Francisco Bay Area, there are a chain of "Mega electronic stores" by the name of Frys.

In their ad today, they show a new LG front loader with the following specs:

4.0 cu. ft.
Remote monitor ready
Steam Generator
1320 Max RPM speed
10 wash options
water heater
direct drive motor

Cost: $1,599.99

I wonder, is this the mega 15 kg LG machine that has been talked about for some time? Somehow I don't think so as I read that the Duet and Kenmore are only 10 kg machines. If they are 3.8 cu. ft., then a 15 kg machine would need to be something like 4.8 cu. ft.

Even so, I think 4. cu. ft. capacity is significantly larger than Duet and companion machines.

Re: New LG Steam Wash Washer and Matching Dryer:

I just saw these at a local Home Depot Friday Afternoon, in a beautiful Navy Blue Color. I didn't really have enough time to check them out further, other than kind of a quite examination, but the Home Depot isn't very far from home, so I will certainly be returning to check them out further, within the next few Days.

The Washer did mention about the Steam Wash Cycle, but I didn't even look further about it. I did look inside both the Washer and Dryer and they seemed somewhat larger interiors, but I couldn't tell for sure, because they were on an End-Cap away from the Appliance area. I will check back with the Team Leader there, who is a Friend of mine, to see about the Capacities and availability of them, as far as if any other Colors or White as well.

I checked out the dimensions of my Duet clone (Kitchen Aid) aginst the Lg's specs. It appears that width and depth are the same. My machine measures 38" compared to 38 11/16" for this new LG. It is amazing that they could make the drum about 5% bigger and still have the same outer dimensions.

Any actual use?

I'm interested in buying this as my first FL machine. Does anyone have actual experience using it?

I've heard it is a faster cycle time and uses even less water than the "non-steam" versions.

Has this been in the Korean market for a few years??

LG ROCKS!!!

I am the happy owner of an LG WM 2432. It is a 3.7 cu ft front loading machine with a 1200 RPM maximum spin. It is the most intelligent appliance I've ever owned. It's water usage is downright stingy and it's maximum spin has cut drying time in less than half--in fact I dry more stuff on the line and on a rack than ever before. It's dispensing system is very good: it dispenses Wash powder or liquid for main wash, powder for prewash, bleach and softener in whatever final rinse is selected. My only gripe with the dispensing system is that I wish it were set up to work like the dispenser on the Duet's which dispense bleach in the first rinse, when the water is always cool. I would buy this machine again if given the choice. My only constructive criticism of this machine is the water heating system which is somewhat disappointing. The machine is advertised as having a maximum temperature setting of 167 F but it rarely, if ever, reaches above 162. It takes forever to get there and towards the end of the tumbling, the motor begins to strain to turn the clothes. After repeatedly trying to contact LG, they finally fessed up to me that 167 F is the upper limit temperature. The heater can only operate for 30 minutes at one time, so it rarely gets that high. I think LG and the other manufacturers of large capacity front loaders should take a page out of the European manufacturer's engineering design books and wire them to run on 220V instead of 120. They would have a greater range of temperatures and faster cycles.
Having said all of this I will iterate that this is a great washing machine; it is quiet and the controls are clear and well designed. I am a pastry chef by trade and I bought this machine in the hopes that it would be able to clean my "whites"--the uniforms I wear at work that get covered with chocolate, blood and fruit juice stains. I can set the machine up to wash a program that I recommend to all of my culinary students: cool prewash with a liquid enzyme detergent ( I can pause the machine here to have an attenuated soakin period), high speed extraction, extremely hot wash with dishwasher detergent ( love the phosphates, also love no suds AT ALL{I'm not paying P & G's HE prices})and I put ammonia, not bleach, in the bleach dispenser which gets dosed in the final 5 minutes of the wash cycle, two cold rinses and a final rinse with softener. Works like a charm.

Here's a Fantasy--my retro American Standard puke pink bathroom outfitted with a Hybrid GE '60's/LG high-efficiency pair. Makes me all misty just thinking about it:

I love your rendition of that set, even the pink doesn't bother me, I guess because it's been toned town because of the large black/chrome windowed doors. And the inconsistency and difficulty reaching set temps by the heater is one reason why I'm turned off a bit by LG washers.

hi bajaespuma. I have the Model WM2032. I also love this machine. It cleans very well. I sometimes wonder though how it cleans with so very little water. I also worry that my clothes are being rinsed well. Do you have the same opinions?

Just called LG Customer Support. They don't know of any plans to pull this model from the market. The manuals are still avai. for download.

No problem at all with rinsing. You can set it to have up to five rinses, but usually the two rinses do the trick especially with the high speed spin cycle. You do, however, have to remember not to use more than 1/4 of the amount of regular detergent in the machine--it's using less than 1/6 of the amount of water as a standard top loader. Also, you do need either an HE detergent (low or no sudsing) or use dishwasher detergent for the Sanitary/extra hot cycle.

Does anyone know whether the new LG mentioned runs on 220V or 120V?
