My name is Jim and I'm a fabric softener user.  There I said it.😁

Nothing crazy, but I use a little with each load, except on towels. Usually use Downey but we had a coupon for snuggle and it was on sale so what the heck.  My partner did sheets  yesterday, and may have put to much in I don't know. I couldn't sleep last night, the smell was everywhere. Couldn't get it out of my nose. This morning I got up not feeling well, got ready for work and by the time I got there I had a migraine. Could be a coincidence but I don't know.

I'm rewashing everything right now because that all I can smell and snuggle is going down the drain. I'm sure I've used it before but never hated like this. Did they change the formula? Anyone else have a similar experience?

Hello Jim......

thanks for sharing.....lol

anywho, Snuggle seems to be more potent lately, not as bad as your experience, but the new designs of most softeners is the lasting fragrance.....lucky if I get 2 or 3 days of that scent lasting......but their claiming up to a week or more of freshness......

you can go either way, I either use one of those little cups that come with cough meds, it fits right inside the bottle, or mix 50/50 with water in the bottle to thin it out some......

believe it or not, your water hardness and Ph has a lot to do with scents lasting or becoming over-powering.....

keep us posted as to how you make out.....

Right now,

I have snuggle. And I'm like you, I use it on everything but towels, but just a VERY little bit with each load, like a tablespoon. This way you get just a vague scene and not that overpowering funk you're talking about. Personally, when I use Fab softener, I prefer the generic cheap kind, because that smells like the old fab softener to me..and it's a little more watered down and not so freaking overpowering. I've had a migraine before and they are NO fun! Thank God I don't get them too often. My friend Liz gets them a lot and she can't do anything but lay in bed and not move.

Migraines

I've had good results with Excedrin Migraine IF I take it whenever I feel one might be coming on.  It's well worth taking even if it may be a false alarm, a placebo or whatever you want to call it.  Sure beats doing nothing and ending up dealing with a migraine.  As a result, it's been about five years since I've had to ride one out in bed, in the dark, and in serious pain.  I buy the Walgreens or other store brands that use the same formula as Excedrin and they are just as effective.

Adorable dog also!

Hello Jim, we lost our ten year old rottie last may. It was a long winter here without him.
I have allergies to many scents, so I use only unscented free detergent and softener sheets.
Headaches, and wheezing.
Although, I can tolerate Persil. It smells like the old Oxydol or Sears detergent to me.

The Snuggle is ok but one must cut the dose down to like a tablespoon as Mark suggests. I personally haven't used it on my clothes (and don't plan to) but have used it on other household members foul smelling clothes and it works wonders covering up the awful odors that won't come out without burning the clothes. And that's while using a very small dose! I did a load of towels and did the recommended amount and it was AWFUL, those towels took about 10 washes to get rid of the smell.

I've been using the Blue Sparkle scent which to me is very traditional.

taking it with coke increases its efficacy...

That would be the caffeine, so consuming any beverage with that substance will do the same.

Caffeine is very useful in treating pain, headaches and other ailments. Past and many present medications for headaches contain caffeine for this reason. However some leave it out as many persons do have reactions to the stuff and or just do not like what it does to their system even in small amounts.

Caffeine

Yes, caffeine is one of the active ingredients in the Excedrin Migraine formula and the store brand versions of it.

I saw something on the internet machine this week about fragrances causing headaches. You can probably do a Google search and find that this is no coincidence. Don't use the stuff on your sheets anymore and see if it helps. Sorry for your headache.

Tried Snuggle once and never again.  Hated the smell, and I noticed if I forgot a load in the washer after a few days it smelled sour and had to rewash, never ever had that issue with Downy. I only use the unscented version and am very happy with it.

OMG FABREEZE

I know, right! Years ago when that stuff came out and I saw the commercial of people just spraying pillows, clothes, carpet, anything, I was immediately thinking what the hell is in that stuff that you spray your pillow or clothes with then lay your head on the pillow or the clothes on your skin. It can't be good. I'm sure they've tested it but I've never ever used the stuff.

So far I haven't had any trouble with the snuggle causing problems in my machine. I use just a very little bit, maybe that's why. I won't be buying it again when I finish this bottle. It takes me forever to go through a bottle of fab softener

Mark,

I dunno if this is accurate or not, but me neighbor told all Febreeze is, is diluted fabric softener, and she makes her own.
I watch her dog during week days, and I can not stay in her house more than a few minutes at a time.

Here in the UK we have strict labeling laws that state any chemical classed as a hazard or alleged must be listed. This makes it easy to look up said chemicals and get more information. Highly scented fabric softeners , air fresheners, detergents and cleaning products invariably contain chemicals classed as human immune toxicants, hormone disrupters and some have been found to worsen mood disorders. I ditched softener, air freshener and changed laundry detergent , cleaning products and toiletries to ones with fewer hazzerdous chemicals about 18 months ago. I would say that Hubby and I have certainly noticed the benefits. We've not had as many colds, Hubby doesn't get blinding headaches now and I've not had a depressive episode in all that time ( I have bipolar).

Scents can definitely cause headaches or migraines. If you`re oversensitive to a certain scent it`s probably best to switch to another scent instead of reducing the amount.
Cool Water and original flavour Softlan (Sauvitel) give me headaches. The odd thing is I still like to smell these scents on others just can`t bear them on myself all day long.

Strong scents kill me. I used to sneeze and get a headache from going down the detergent isles in the supermarkets. I have noticed in the past year or so the elimination of most powdered detergents for sale has greatly reduced if not eliminated this. Now if we could get these older woman to shower instead of dousing themselves with perfume. lol Also not a user of Febreeze either. The only thing I found this good for is the trash can liners that have it in it. Keeps the can pretty much with no smell.

What is wrong with these companies?  Do they think the lessons about ORIGINAL FORMULAs only applies to Coke?

It's alright to add additional formulas when you have a winning formula, but to change it?  There should be a law to protect consumers.

Frankly, if I knew that Downy was still the same formula as it was in 1980, I would buy it, but..... I'm afraid.  I had a similar thing happen with this perfume abuse scenario, with clothes getting contaminated.

One ends up having to soak things in a heavy baking soda mix and rinse with vinegar.

After rewashing everything and tossing the Snuggle Blue Sparkle, I felt much better.  Could have been just a coincidence, but I know now that smell will push me over the edge in the future.  Funny though, the dog still smells faintly like it,  I'll give hime another day or two and then he's going to get a bath.!

Michael,

Yes, that's a U of M shirt.  I'm from Michigan, my family still lives in the Detroit area.  I didn't go to U of M but a lot of my friends did and I spent many many fun filled weekends and foot ball games there.  Ann Arbor was only 45 minutes from home so it was easy to pop out there to meet friends and hang out.

Jim,

I'm only 3 years older than you. Did you ever go to backstreet, etc. in Detroit?
Maybe you just have a familiar face.
I used to see David Burtka ( Neil Patrick Harris' partner) at Menjos back in the day. He's from Canton.
I'm an east sider. I grew up downriver.

Small world..  I grew up Downriver.. Allen Park to be exact.   Did I ever go to BackStreet?  Is the pope Catholic.  I was good friends with Carl the owner and my friend Roger was a bartender at "Pulse" the back bar.  My boyfriend was a bar tender at Back Pocket for many years. So the ritual was to meet for drinks at the BP and then walk across to BackStreet.  Oh those were the days.  If I remember correctly...the sequence to go out in Detroit were..

Monday night - Gigi's

Tuesday night - Nectarine Ballroom in Ann Arbor

Wednesday - Backstreet

Thursday - east side bars like the E Ramp, Tiffany's etc.

Friday - Menjo's

Saturday - The Hayloft, Back Pocket, Backstreet circuit

Sunday - Menjo's

Jim, it is a small world, Southgate, in fact.

it's still me, Mike. Robert restored my original profile.
I had some argumentative issues the other day with a couple others.
My integrity was a bit trampled, and I bit back. Italian temper.
I think I may have been to the E ramp once, with my ex.
It was next to the Gas Station, no?
I do miss the Back Stage restaurant. Once in a while, I went to Tiffany's, or Stevens as it was called both.
I remember Carl. I think he passed away. He left a foundation to help gay youth's. Backstreet is now a straight black gentle mans strip club.
I think Necto is still open, We don't go to bars. There are only a few left anyhow. So many moved away during the recession.
