These Dexters have the emergency button to unlock the door in an emergency. They come to a complete stop before unlocking . The only way I see possible for this accident to happen is by hitting the button and immediately opening the door reaching in to grab while the drum is still spinning. I've done that myself on an old multi speed Laundromat. Hurt like hell.

And caution should be noted to those who are diagnosing washing machines and running them with the outer cabinets removed. Watch where you put your fingers! There are moving parts in there that could hurt if your fingers get too close while they are running!

This is just freaken bizarre and I gotta wonder if there was some sort of electronics malfunction that caused it to go haywire and go into spin mode just as he opened the door and reached in... Who knows if we'll ever get the real story.

People are so stupid. Why would anyone put their hand in a moving machine? Even if it started to move after my hand was in there I would jerk it out so quickly one would miss the action if they weren't watching closely. He must not have worked around machinery before or maybe he doesn't see well. Either way he should have taken those things into account. I've worked around machines and electricity all my life and those inventions aren't to be taken lightly.

The news story is poorly written.We really don't have what truely happened.Did the man reach into the machine to pull out clothes while it was still turning?Did the door interlock switch work to shut off the machine when it was opened?Why would he try to take things out of the machine if it has not finished the whole cycle?These are my questions both the story and video are poorly implemented.Must have been written and produced by a "cub" newsperson.My father used to do insurance company accident and fire investigations.One of them involved a Wasco(think that was the brand-this happned like 30 yrs ago) washer at a laundry service in town.A woman operator reached into the machine to retreive clothes.As she did so the machine started when the door was opened.Turned out the interlock switch could be activated when you put your other hand on the machines front panel as you reached into it.The woman lost her arm in this.The machine company lost the case and had to redesign its door interlocks on future machines-they had to compensate the woman for her injuries.
Video cameras are a good thing. Theft of expensive clothing with logos is not uncommon around here. Back on topic. I am beginning to wonder if huge coin op machines with doors large enough for a kid to climb in and powerful enough to rip a limb off an adult are the best choice for unattended laundries? I bet lawyers and liability insurers are starting to notice this trend, malfunction or not.
