Cold Power

was always Cold Power in Aus as far back as I can remember - we are certainly a long way from the Arctic so that may explain why - and is still reasonably popular. I think it's C-P's flagship detergent in Australia, with Fab being their budget brand. It works ok, but I prefer Unilever's OMO, which I believe is the Australian equivalent of Persil.

I have been using German Persil in my Miele washer since 2003.  I bought a box Persil Universal last year and noticed that the German dosage instructions had almost doubled the recommended amount to use.   I used the same amount  I always did but the results were not good.  Everything was clean, but everything was rough, so rough that I stopped using it and bought Miele detergents to use instead.

Since released I have been using Persil Pro 2n1 or Persil perls.  For me the 2n1 smells exactly like Persil Gel for colors -  I have the bottles side by side and take a snif of each, the Perls smell exactly like Persil Megaperls for whites that I have in a container.  The performance of the Perls is the same for me as Megaperls for whites.  The performance of the liquid is better than Persil for colors liquid  because it rinses much better in my water of 14 Grains of hardness.

I can also use the 2n1 liquid in a 20 minute 120F wash for 14 days worth of white underwear and come out with spotless, soft undies so I am happy.  No detergent scent after tumble dry in Miele dryer.  I never use over line 1 and usually use to line 0 in the cap. For the Perls I use 30 mls when washing whites -  the same amount as I used for Persil Megaperls for whites.

I also have Persil Pods and they work well also, but I would rather control the amount of detergent I use.  I use the Pods on large soiled loads and they work well.

Every once in while I will switch it up and use Miele for whites and  Miele for colors.  Both of these work very well for me.  For blacks or dark blues I use Perwoll Intensive black...although I think this has been renamed to Persil for darks...whatever...it works,  and keeps my darks clean and dark.

So for now I am using Persil Pro liquid and Perls, or Miele for whites and colors...excellent results with both.  For darks I use Perwoll or Persil for darks and get good performance.  I use Rosalie's for dark thick towels.

These are my favorites for now.  I don't use any additives, just the detergents on their own.

Vacerator

Fairy is a P&G mainstream brand detergent aimed at laundry for babies, "the softest non bio" they say. It's a great detergent, smells great and really does leave clothes soft and fluffy. I belive your closest would be Dreft or Ivory.

Fairy is also the name of the UK market leading dish liquid and DW tabs. I believe it's DAWN and Cascade, just under the Fairy label.

Just like Downy (Lenor here)

American Persil perls

I'm glad you said that, jerrod. After using the US Power-Perls for awhile a friend in Europe(Hi Ingemar!) sent me some of the German version, and I literally cannot tell the difference, in looks, scent, or performance. The formula may or may not be absolutely identical, but for all practical purposes it's the same thing. I would not advise anyone to waste money importing the German stuff any longer.

Haven't tried any of the liquid and can't comment on it.

I usually just buy the cheapest like Arm & Hammer or ?  However last week I thought I'd give  Persil a try so I drove to Walmart and found out they don't carry it in the  Canadian stores.. It'll have to wait till I cross the bridge and go to the other Walmart.

This stuff is my new favorite

I still love Gain HE, Sears HE powder. But this has the best smell to me and it does a great job cleaning clothes and rinsing away leaving a tiny hint of scent.

German (real) Persil and US (fake) Persil

Being from Germany and dependent upon friends and relations bringing the real deal over with them when they visit, I was very excited to try American Persil.

It worked like shit.

Now, I'm hearing some say it works just as well as the real stuff. Can it be the first attempts were done with junk and the current version is the real deal?

I'm very curious. If that were to be the case, I'd be very happy.

I have Euro Persil Perls and Walmart Pearls, I have found no difference in either one as far as cleaning preformance goes, I do think the Euro has a tad more scent, but its such a small amount it could be my sniffer. Theres a number of people on GardenWeb that have reported that Walmart Pearls and Walmart Persil liquids leave a vomit or dead corpse scent on clothing. I have not experienced this myself. I will say some of these people have been having excellent results with Walmart Persil caps, which are manufactured in Hungary. But than again the US Pearls are only assembled in the US with foreign ingredients. ..if this makes a difference lol. Cheryl

@panthera

You pays your money and you takes your chances! *LOL*

Some people rave about Persil ProClean both liquid and perls, others aren't so impressed. I guess it comes down to what you are comparing it to and expectations.

Bought bottle of the liquid version and wasn't that impressed. Have a HUGE stash of German Persil powder and perls in both color and original formula so didn't bother with the Proclean version. That coupled with the large stash of Persil59 and original soap powder means am pretty much well supplied for the duration.

For what it is worth when CR tested Persil Proclean the liquid/gel was their top pick even dethroning Tide. The persl OTOH didn't rate so highly IIRC.

I've never used the European version of Persil so I can't really comment on how it compares to the US version. Honestly my clothes don't get very dirty...only thing that does is my white socks and I've tried everything and the still don't come completely clean. I can say that I used the US Persil 2-in-1 on some rags that I used to clean my engine with and after the wash cycle I couldn't tell which rag I had used compared to the others...they were all completely clean. So it did a great job of cleaning away car grease...not too shabby if you ask me.

My Favorite Commercial Detergents

When my hives aren't acting up, I prefer, in this order: Wisk Deep Clean, Era without oxi, and the Method 8x. Wisk cleans the best, Era is usually the cheapest, and the Method is convenient.

Decades ago, like in the late 80s or very early 90s, John brought me back some OMO-Matic from Australia. I used a bit of the powder in the box, then sealed it all in a zipper plastic bag where it remains to this day.

detergents

Persil bio powder is the only powder for whites for me. I use persil colour or Ariel actilift for my non whites. I have to say, though Ariel powder is a big no no for me.. IT STINKS!!! I can smell it a mile off either on people or in their homes and it makes me want to hold my nose!! I thought it was only me, but 3 or 4 other people have said the same...its a shame, years ago, I remember Ariel had a real fresh smell...

Michael...

Unsure how long it has been since you have smelt it, but Ariel's scent has been changed in the last 6 months or so.

here are my pics.....

When I was growing up, my mother used Arm&Hammer, then Gain, then Era. I HATE all those! I am extremly picky, besides the fact I ONLY use powder! So I also cant stand over powering strong smelling laundry detergent. So I either buy Surf. I like Surf beaucse it is reasonalbly priced, cleans well, and has a pleasent suttle sent. But I have recently discoverd Cheer! I was sceptical at first, but found it is equally as pleasent, and cleans just as well as Surf. I simply dont have the money to undulge on Tide, or the Sears brand, or those would also be in the running.
