What is everyone's favorite laundry detergent?

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Shows you how different our sniffers are, IMO Surf in the US, every flavour reeks to the high heavens LOL.
As a side note P&G has decided to stop production of powdered Ariel and powdered Ace in Latin America, they say it will be cheaper to only manufactur liquids in these two detergents. Cheryl

The mainstays in our laundry room are Sears powder (orange or green boxes), and Ariel in its various formulas.  Right now though we're using 4 small bags Ace detergent that I picked up at the local Mexican grocer.  We're dedicated powder users because we can't stomach paying for something that's mostly water.

Both the new and old smelling Ariel is dreadful to me! Not to be too crude, it reminds me of when I pass the laundry room smell in my aunts care home!. Ariel liquid and actilift smell great and fresh though. When you compare Ariel to persil with its fresh smell that ,to be honest, stays smelling fresh for a long time. theres no compromise on preformance either

I use the Clasico too. Bought a bag at Family Dollar. It's Mountain Spring scent so I suspect it's basically Tide, without the blue specks lol. Mine is all white. It cleans pretty well from what I've noticed. Scent is strong but doesn't come through that much after drying.

Tim, if you like and use Mexican powdered Ariel than I suggest you stock up. Last June P&G made a decision to stop production of all Powdered Ariel and Ace in Latin America, I'm not sure of the date this was to go into effect. Cheryl

I've been buying Sears Ultra Plus (orange box) for about 8 years, but recently bought some Persil Pro-Clean Powerpearls. I liked it OK, but noticed that my older towels and sheets were starting to show wear more quickly. I'm out of both now, and will probably get the Ultra Plus again, as it cleans about as well, and is much less expensive. Hope they have it on sale before next laundry day.

What a hard question to answer...

... I love them all.

Well when it comes to use them I do have some preferences.

I like Persil from Henkel (especially the German megaperls).
I like the Italian Dash powder from Procter & Gamble.
And I like the Austrian OMO powder from Unilever. Really a very good detergent!

But I like to try all kind of detergents.
Currently I'm in love with Japanese detergents and fabric softeners. Great performers and such pleasant and lovely scents.

P.S. Hello John (Supersuds), nice to hearing from you :-)

The only Japanese detergent I've been able to try is Australian-market Biozet Attack, which I think has the nicest scent of any detergent ever. (Not sure if it is the same in Japan.) It seems to be a decent cleaner, also. I wish it were easier to obtain over here.

My favorite detergents:

I am currently using Tide clean breeze, Persil Liquid and Persil Pro White pearls for whites. I am very impressed with the Pro White pearls. In soft, 140f water whites come out beautiful without using bleach!
My alltime fave though, when I can get my hands on it, is Ecolab Laundri Brite. That will clean any dirt out of anything.

Tide HE powder of some ilk, usually with bleach.

Era liquid or Wisk liquid.

Foca powder.

WM Persil powder/perls.  2-in-1 liquid (although the scent tends toward overwhelming), surprising how little dosage is needed ... 2 tablespoons is sufficient for average loads in my Calypso and Neptune TL.

Fresh Start for the scent, although it's not an especially good detergent.  Apparently it's NLA but I have two jugs left from a case bought some years ago.

Fresh Start

Have several jugs of the vintage stuff. You can improve results by kicking things up a notch with some sort of "booster" I like to add either a bit of my homemade soap jelly or Tide Gentle/F&C.

One of the reasons Fresh Start is so low sudsing is that it is mostly alkaline substances (phosphates, washing soda, etc..) along with nonionic (low froth) surfactants. This along with one enzyme (protease) and other things.

Nonionic surfactants are indeed good cleaners and low sudsing but anionic are better for certain soils such as oily dirt. This is why TOL laundry detergents are often a blend of the two. Soap could be classified as an anionic surfactant which accounts for why Tide and other laundry detergents add a bit of that substance to "enhance cleaning"....

Japanese Biozet Attack

Yes I'm a big fan of this one! It's quite a fine powder so it dissolves easily, and is absolutely loaded with brighteners and enzymes optimised for use in cold or warm water. I get whiter whites using this in a cold or warm wash than I do using hot water, chlorine bleach and another detergent. I find that it absolutely strips fabric of stains, oils or fabric softener residue so it's great for those of us with greasy skin, but it's too harsh for use on colours.

Glad somebody else has heard of Biozet Attack!

The texture or whatever you call it is remarkable. It isn't dusty but seems very light and easy to dissolve. There was some fancy engineering going on with the manufacturing process.

The box I had a couple of years ago seemed to indicate it only had two enzymes, called Enzyme P and Enzyme C, presumably protease and cellulase. But it works. As I recall there was also a warning about not washing over a certain temperature, maybe 50 degrees Celsius?

Attack (Biozet Attack)

I don't know if the scent is the same as the Japanese Attack. I guess it is, because the Australian one is also made in Japan. But I can tell that it is indeed very very nice. A blend of lily of the valley and fine freshness.

Sears!

Just bought the 275 load box of the Ultra Plus with Fabric Softener and I really like it! I used the orange box before and the smell is very similar...not much left after the dryer. But everything came out perfect in terms of softness and static. I honestly hate using fabric softener so this may be my first choice detergent from now on. It's low sudsing too which is good for my GE Filter Flo. I often have issues with over-sudsing on smaller loads.

Got it on sale for $19.99 with free shipping. I may have to buy a few more boxes in case Sears goes under. LOL.
