Hi all

I am not far off finishing my box of Bold powder. I had Ariel before this. Now I have had a big problem with the Ariel and the Bold giving way too many suds and so the interim rinses and spins were full of suds.I haven't even been able to get a final rinse and spin without suds everywhere and have been having to do extra rinses.

So what I want to know is what is the best powder/tablets to use which dont give you loads of suds and rinses out well? I can then buy my next product with confidence of less sudsing.

Id better say I don't use liquids or liquitabs.

Im grateful for any advice.

Thanks to all

Mark

Persil and Surf

Hey I recommend Persil powder/gel tabs/Surf Powder/Tabs :) they are low sudsing and rinse out very well :)

Persil/Surf are very light weight powders and they produce really low suds and produce clear rinses.

Daz is good too if you want really great whites :) but it is okay in terms of rinsing, on the par with the other p&g washing powders/tablets

i'm guessing unilever is the way to go :)

Funny lot, the Welsh....LOL

Totally agree with Kyle, The switch from P&G to Unilever in terms of powders and tablets should see considerably less sudsing. This is of huge benefit, as the machine operates as it ought to during the wash cycle, ie the wash rhythm / action is correct. Mechanically, less strain is placed on the pump as it doesn't choke on suds, and there is less strain on the bearings and motor especially during the post wash spin. Less chance of sudslock and extending cycle times.

I also feel that I cannot fully trust a detergent which is designed not to rinse out. My son is allergic to most P/G formulations. Interestingly, though, the very BEST rinsers IMO are the Persil Gel tablets but he's still allergic to them, as the scent doesn't rinse out.

If I were pressed to choose, I would reccommend...

Persil Bio Powder
Persil Non-Bio powder
Persil Non-Bio tabets (with this product being my number one
choice of detergent)

Fairy Household Soap

Hi Mark,
Get yourself a bar of Fairy Household Soap (or any household soap) and grate it into an air tight storage container. Add one tablespoon of the grated soap to each wash with your favorite detergent and you will hove no more problems with suds. The natural soap acts as a suds suppressant without effecting the performance of your detergent.

David

P.S. Add it to the drum if you are concerned about clogging the dispenser

Hi Guys

Thank you so much for all your advice! There is an offer on in Makro cash and carry which starts today. Its for 144 Surf Tropical tablets. I will probably go for these as I like to get a bargain if I can.BUT I now know when Ariel comes up again I can use the fairy soap to kill the suds..Thanks David! The decision is now what conditioner to buy!! I have used comfort for ages but didn't buy any when I got the bold. I personally feel though you still need it with Bold as you just don't get the same results without it. I may go for Lenor this time.

By the way David thanks for the link.I didn't know about that site.It was great to see all those products!

Thanks again for all the advice...much obliged to you all.

Mark, the Surf tropical tablets are a great choice and my favourite scent of Surf, rather like `Once' shampoo from the '80s! Pleasant, not over powering scents. Surf only contains two enzymes, compared to three or more in premium detergents (or at least it did when I last checked) but one of them is protease so the tabs are unsafe for use on wool and silk.

They are phophate containing, low sudsing, capable washing tablets.

I hope you get on with them!

Nick

Thanks Nick! I am looking forward to trying them! I have not smelt the tropical surf yet. I don't want to be seen going up and down the detergent isle at tescos smelling all of them like some kind of detergent junkie...lol

Hey Mike

I think a lot of the problem is that we have very soft water here so we will get more sudsing than usual. Ive been using powder but not putting in the dosage it says on the box to try and help but no matter what programme I seem to select I still have trouble.

Suds...

Soft water and lightly soiled clothes may mean that you can get away with one tablet of Ariel/Bold/Daz. In my experience two tablets is a recipe for suds-locking, and poor Zanussi Jetsystem performance.

Yesterday, my mum's Bosch had excess foam, and at the end of the cycle the 'detergent overdose' icon flashed up on its display. I can't be sure if it added an extra rinse automatically, as its time-remaining display went from 10mins to zilch, at the end of the spin cycle.

Those machines that have a mind of their own...!

Hi Rolls

Have been meaning to say hello to another member that is in Scotland. Where in Scotland are you? Like you say 1 tablet of bold/ariel/daz would probably be ok but if im using tablets I tend to use 2. Haven't had tablets for a while. The last tablets I bought were Ariel Bio when they were on offer in Makro. This was when we had the old house and the new Candy washer. That seemed to cope with them fine though.

Mike

I forgot to say im using the Logic as we don't have a "modern" machine anymore. Maybe that also adds to the sudsing as like ive just mentioned when using the new Candy in the old house I didn't seem to get the problems like I am now. Im hoping to go and get the Surf tablets tonight and will see how I get on with those.

Hi Mark,

Regarding Ariel sudsing... I'm thinking either our water must have suddenly changed or that Ariel have tweaked the formulation... I'm using their tablets, powder and liquid at the moment and they hardly suds at all, we're talking Persil levels here! But generally, I think Persil is the only powder that I can guarantee won't suds excessively, knowing P&G the Ariel range will probably be mega sudsy again in a few months time or so!

Our Darren here has also said that he has noticed the same with the current batch of Ariel (bear in mind we're on the same water, at least I presume seeming as he's only a couple miles away), so I think they must have tweaked it, probably as they were getting complaints about oversudsing with it.

David - grating soap reminds me of that episode of Mr Bean when he does his laundry :-).

Take care all,

Jon

Hi Mark,

I live in 'somewhere', north of Dundee, lol. I'm between jobs just now, and finding a new one is a pain in the neck - not to mention the wallet!

My sister has a Candy washer and she found that using 2 Ariel tablets (when they came out at first) caused excess foam. She now uses the powder, as it is easier to adjust the dosage.

Mark,

Definitely Persil non-bio tablets for me. :-)

We have a water softener fitted here, which was fitted just before we got the Miele. Our water is effectively soft, although I doubt it is very soft – the water here is officially very hard.

Ariel bio tablets until recently used to foam up so much that the whole drum in the Miele was be fi;; pf foam with just one tablet – terrible! However, I can back up what Jon and Darren have said – Ariel does not foam up as much, although it is still too sudsy.

From experience with trying different detergents over recent months in my artificially softened water, I would suggest Persil non-bio tablets – lovely! :-) I’ll back Nick up (above) on tis, too. With our very hard water, before we had the softener, Persil tablets were still great. I don’t know about the other Persil tablets, but members here say there are some differences, especially with the Gel ones, which may be even better at rinsing out, However, for low suds – virtually none! – and possibly the best rinsed load, almost zero suds, minus all the strong perfumes, etc., I’d go for Persil non-bio tablets.

Hope this helps. :-)

Regards,

Carl :-)

======

Neil,

LOL! :-)

Your idea is fantastic! LOL :-) Will it be called Persil Aqua or Ariel Aqua, and will it have a label on the side that says, “WARNING! This product can be consumed”?! ;-)

Regards,

Carl :-)

I meant to say above thar Ariel bio tablets until recently left the drum full of foam. My typing again! LOL :-)

Hi All

Hi Carl..nice to see you back! I know how hard the water is where u are as i was born and bread in Luton - Bedfordshire. The scale you get on everything is really bad. When I got my grans twin tub off her it took 2 bottles of calgon to get the scale off!

Well last night I went to Makros and got the offer that was on. 144 Surf Tropical tablets for £7.99 plus vat so thats £9.75ish I think. There was also an offer on Lenor concentrate/ultra so got two big 5 Litre bottles for £5.49 each plus vat, so that would be £12.75ish I think. I think thats a bargain but not sure how much the same amount is in the supermarkets.

I have just finished doing a load of bedlinen with them. All I can say is WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!

I have taken some pics and they speak for themselves.
