My box of SA8 arrived today. I immediately stained a flour sack dish towel with Worcestershire sauce, Ketchup, Barbecue sauce, Chocolate syrup, Spaghetti sauce and Mustard. I then hung the towel in front of a space heater to dry and 'set' the stains for 3 hours.

I laundered it with a medium-sized load of whites in my Frigidaire front-loader using one scoop of detergent and hot water (about 140 at the tap). I used the Heavy Soil (18 min. wash) setting of the WHITES cycle.

Here's a photo of the towel before I dried and laundered it.

Here's the towel fresh from the dryer. There's a faint mustard stain still visible, as well as a very slight trace of spaghetti sauce and chocolate syrup. I did not use bleach with this load; normally I always use LCB in my white loads, but I wanted to test the detergent's power on its own. I have to say I'm pretty damn impressed with the results.

I'm going to do the same test using Persil, Tide HE and Ariel in the coming week. I want to see how they do with the same stains under the same washing conditions.

I'm going to bet you a bottle of your favorite Christmas

that Tide HE will get the all of the stains out. So will tide with Bleach but only if you include a long soak. Your little test cloth examination site is priceless. I love it.

Good Night All

OK, Jetcone, I'll do Persil next, just for you. Probably Sunday evening. I have guests coming for dinner so there will be another medium-sized load of whites ready to go. FYI: I have the Persil made by Henckels (German).

Forgot to discuss the sudsing of SA8 in FL'er using very soft water: Low-sudsing suds in wash, and an almost equal amount of suds appeared in the first two rinses. Final rinse (no bubble-killing softener used) still had some suds, but it was pretty weak. No noticeable trace of detergent on laundered items. No lingering scent, either.

I can't wait to find out how Persil does. I just ordered two boxes of it today (one regular and one Megaperls Colour). That stuff better be worth its price!

thanks Frigilux

My SA8 came yesterday. One scoop in the Frig T/L? will try it thursday night.

I should probably try the same test in my Frigidaire TL'er. The instructions on the SA8 box say to use one scoop (2 for hard water) in any type of washer. That would make the solution much less concentrated in the TL'er as compared to the FL'er.

Wow! What a clean towel - I've heard that it was a great product but have not tried it. I always liked the SA8-Plus (w/phosphates) - I should try my local block in the pyramid and see if they have any of that left and get some Bio-Quest as well.

Love the stain testing - let's try it in lots of different machines...just like the spinning tests!

Good Test however 140 is a bit high for a enzyeme product , 120 ot 125 is ideal. The Enzyemes start dieing off around 135 and up to 145 or 150 there will be none.. You might try the same at around 120 or so and see what happens I have used that product here and it was Very good. With a spoon full of the non chlor. bleach it will get it ALL out. We have used it on very heavy soil blood and nursing home type soils and the results have been remarkable. And when useing Amway All purpose bleach everything is spotless we use 125 for the best results with the amway products.. Looking forward to more of your test thanks...

Wow, that's pretty impressive. I'll bet one more go-round will get rid of the mustard and spaghetti sauce completely. Can't wait for more tests! Eugene, honey, would you mind adding coffee to the stain roster? That's my particular bugaboo.

Lee-- On water temps: Even though the temp is approx. 140 at the tap, by the time the clothes and cold metal tub get ahold of it, I think the actual temp in the machine is around 120 degrees. I'll get my instant-read thermometer out and check on the next test. I'm willing to bet the farm it's nowhere near 140 degrees in there. Thanks for mentioning that, though; I always forget that enzyme products are hindered, not helped, by super-hot water.

Veg-- I will gladly add a coffee stain in future tests!

I know I am from
the old school and in our Certification and Laundry mgmt. classes we were always taught 140 min 160 best. They even reccommend we push our heaters and boilers to at least 175 to be sure water temps at the machines were 160 at least. It is sure hard from me to change after 30 some odd years of good old hot steamy water.... I still have a R.N. DON from one of the sister hospitals that just screams when she comes thru and the water is 125 or so.. I do still wash all the contaminated linen at 160 to 175 and I really don't care what they say.. I told the admn. (the one thats a ass) from over at the main hospital, If he wanted us to use 120 on that type of linen he would be welcome to come unload the machines! He just screamed F%$#U .. I just laugh it sure makes him mad ..Keep on with the test I find it very interesting ..LOL
