Backpacks!!!

Hey Andrew I`m sure everything washable will make its way towards a "Miele Programme"...max will have the cleanest bedding around!!!interesting scenario about the freezing water, I`m sure a bit of feedback to them may not go amiss!!! accuracy is one thing that is a Miele advantage...What type of detergent did you use??

Detergent

I just bought a jug of this new Tide TotalCare HE, and LOVE IT. Smells so good, especially on Sanitize (70C, 158F). It's our main detergent brand here in the US.

If it's possible to be in love with an appliance, I'm living proof!

One thing you will notice that i have noticed on my Miele that it will make HE liquids suds up like crazy. The drum plays a big part in the suds factor plus so does the fact that HE liquids suds up no matter how much or little one uses of it. If you can get your mitts on Persil Powder or even the MegaPearls then do so. It will unlock that washer's cleaning ability. Tide HE powder does very well also. I have also found that with Liquid HE detergent my 4800 will go into a sudslock. Then I get the light reminding me that it was oversudsed. . Yours may do the same.

Suds

Mike,

Thanks for the note - after the initial sanitize cycle the machine requires to remove it's spin lock, I decided to do a huge load of towels to help clean out the drum further. Not sure how sudsy it would get, I just used the manufacturer recommendation on the Tide TotalCare to line 2 for a large load. I did sudslock, but line 1 would probably have been about right for the load size.

I'm still experimenting with dosage as you have to do with any new washer really. I'll try some Tide HE Powder tonight when I get home to watch Miele TV. :-)

Drum Light

Unfortunately no. It turns off after the initial fill down the door. I do have LED lights that run off AC which I've attached to my Tripod though for filming / viewing :)

I have the service manual for the W3033 and it doesn't give any settings for the drum light other than enabling it / disabling it in the service mode.

congrats Andrew !

ChesterMike is really right : you can wash such things one wouldn't dare to throw into a washing machine. Camping tents, backpacks, wetsuits, lambswool/cashmere jumpers, loden jackets, raincoats, duvet jackets/coats, ski suits .....

If the W48XX servicemode code is right for the W30XX too you'll be able to adjust the "sensitive" option for a furter rinse and a rinse level like the delicate cycle

@ Mike(nmassman)-Liquids : i have no problem, unless I use wool detergents on regular or permapress instead of wool/delicate/handwash cycles. Same applies to my brother's machine with the honeycomb drum. Maybe your liquids are so sudsy like Woolite ? Maybe you've extremly soft water ?

Dosage

Andrwe, you gotta also remember that this machine is smaller than the large U.S. front loaders the manufacturers design the dosages for. I find in my 3.1 cu. ft. Frigidaire, line one or line two at the most is more than adequte. A very full load in a 4.4 cu. ft. front loader would probably need line 3 or 4, depending upon the soil leve.

Towels Wash

Towels Wash at 70C - I did reduce detergent, still a bit too sudsy :-) I'll knock it back more next time.

Enjoy!

Final Spin

1300 RPM Spin after the first sanitize wash to clean out the residual oils in the drum from manufacturing.

Does size matter?

So now that you've had it a little while, any further thoughts on the capacity? I really like the build quality, reliability and wash performance of the smaller, horizontal axis machines. But, since we're a family of four, I'm afraid I'd be chained to the darn thing doing our mountain of laundry.

How many are in your household? Do you think the smaller size is an issue?

Machine Size

There are 2 of us here, and the way I see it, the more loads of wash I get to do in this gem the better :-) I can still load quite a lot of towels in it.

I don't mind the reduced capacity as the machine meeting it's target temperatures is a tradeoff. Neither if the LG's I owned with heaters would reach 70C on a regular basis. Generally it would stop at like 63C, 65C.

I bought an infrared thermometer to handily check temps at the door glass :)
