Well unfortunately back on 11/4 when I had already been working on the order for the Miele Washer and Dryer, the dryer was out of stock and on backorder through the vendor. I waited and waited and it was STILL out of stock.

I ended up cancelling the order. I am going to place the order again around the first week of January and try again with a different vendor this time.

Here is the current state of the basement finishing project. Still have to finish taping, muding, sanding, texture, paint, trim, shelving, and carpet the stairs. I've just pushed over $2000 on the project, not bad! I want to be able to sit and watch my Mieles in style... LOL

And the before/after pics of my basement in it's current state are below. Getting there!

Original Basement

Here is what the basement was like when we moved in 2 years ago. Very inappropriate for a set of Mieles to live in!

Thanks Greg - It's obviously not big enough to hold all of the 30,000 boxes and bottles of detergent in your 10,000 sq foot laundry facility, but it'll do just fine for me ;-) I'll have to drag you over here to see it all when I'm finished. (If I ever get finished!!!)

The Basement Gifted

I wish I had been fortunate enough to find a house with a basement when I was hunting a few years back. At that time, I thought I had gotten over the washing machine addiction. Not so... I would have a basement full of machines by now.

Your home improvement project looks like it is coming along nicely. Sorry about the Miele set. I am not a person that likes to wait. Once I decide on something, I like to make it happen quickly.

Keep us posted on progression.

Miele

I have a Miele Dishwasher and it is awsome! I love their products and next on my list is their washer and dryer. Good luck and keep us posted! They are easy to purchase out here in AZ but I guess scarce in Nebraska!

Washer Ordered 01/11

I ended up going with the original dealer who gave me a nice discount for the delay with the dryer not being in stock, and being on backorder. I've gone ahead and ordered the W3033 today, and it will be here in about 10 business days. Hopefully before next Friday so I can have a weekend with the new washer!!! Dryer will come soon once they have it in stock.

Uncrating and installation photos will be posted soon :-) Now to sell the LG's...

nice!

I am very excited for you. One thing I haven't quite figured out is why the smaller capacity machines are more expensive than the 4XXX series machines. I can only assume the build quality is better in the smaller machines.

W3000 Series

Agree with you Malcom. I decided on the W3000 series because it's got the classic Miele look that I've really gained an appreciation for over that last 2 years. I saw the W4000 series in person at the dealer here in Omaha, and while they are very solid built, 2 reasons I decided to go with the W3033. You cannot feel the door glass on the W4000 - they have a glass front to the door with Miele stamped in it. I wouldnt be able to hear the clank of buttons and the sound of the water filling down the door as well. In fact, I don't even think the W4000 series fill down the door at all. They have an orange LED drum light, not a white one like the W3033, and it also does not appear to have a spout on the top of the door seal where it would fill down the door. (Yes, I'm certified washer crazy I think). Also, I didn't exactly like the setup of the controls on the W4000. All the buttons are on the top, you wouldnt hardly be able to see them if you were sitting in front of the machine, like many of us do as if we are watching a movie. I like the display on the W3033 much better. These were things which drove me to the $2000 machine vs the $1600 machine.

I was considering a set of the SpeedQueens like yours Malcom, but I decided, that I better just get the ones I REALLY want. I don't think I'll have a desire for something better anytime soon, I'm not sure that there IS anything better than a Miele! (I hope, or my boyfriend WILL slaughter me.)

Now for a Miele La Perla II..........

;-)

La Perla II...

Andrew,

Get the La Perla II, you'll love it! I purchased mine back in August and it is quite frankly the BEST dishwasher I have ever owned and used. Its racks are deceptive in that you they appear smaller than a U.S. machine but I am able to get more in the Miele than the Kenmore Elite I got rid of. And talk about quiet. You can barely hear the machine when it is running. :-)

Chris

Agreed.

Andrew,

I agree with you on that one. That was a big reason for not going with the Miele's because I like to trade up every two to three years. Once you get the Miele's, all the fun of trade-ups is out and you're done. Frankly, I enjoy getting a new set to play with every couple of years. That way, I know something about almost everything out there.

Eventually, I will break down and get the Miele's. My dream machines would be the Little Giant set. Sigh... When I hit the Lottery, perhaps.

But, I can feel your excitment growing. Aint it the best high ever?

Can't wait!!! I'm going to take the entire day off work, and my friend is going to come over Tuesday night to help me cautiously slide the 200lb beauty down the basement stairs still crated and wrapped up in it's box. If it won't fit through my doorjamb in the garage still crated, I'll have to put up padding around the doorjambs so we can carry it in. All of my LG's have fit still in the box, so I'm sure the Miele will. It's smaller than the LG's. The slightest scratch, dent, or ding on a $2000 washer would make me cry, and beat my own ass.

I've already called the delivery company YRC to advise them they must NOT remove the washer from it's shipping crate / wrapping / box. I don't see why they would, but I took the precaution anyway. I bought a set of whirlpools back in 2006 when I lived in Mississippi for a short while, and the fools from Lowes opened it up in the back of the truck and were scooting it allover the metal bed of the truck on the back of the dryer etc. Bottom of the dryer was all scraped up, and the back. A few slight scratches too from hauling them in w/o them being in the boxes. I was livid, should have refused them, but I didn't. We only planned to have them for 6 months, so I really didn't care after I cooled off. That was my first washer/dryer purchase, so I learned my lesson.

;-)

More to come Tuesday!

Wow you passed up a 4800 and went for something with a tad less capacity??? I have a 4800 and the door most certainly gets water. There is a jet nozzle in the door opening that fills the drum and drenches the load as it tumbles. Also I can hear buttons touching the glass. Also with the 4800 even though the control panels are angled and on top one can figure out where it is in a cycle. Its not like the 4840 with the display panel that I kinda wish the 4800 had.
Also was the 4800 plugged in so you could see the color of the LED light? It is white. The lens looks orange but when the light is on it is white.
One key difference is drum angle. The 4800 has an inclined drum...the 3000 does not. A true horizontal drum on that model. Another is that I think that 3000 series is made in Germany. The 4800 and 4840 plus the T9800 dryer are made in Czechoslovakia. A tad maddening but no biggie.
Now when you get a Miele LaPerla dishwasher...now that will make your nips hard! I love mine. 2 years now and no problems whatsoever. Just give it what it needs like salt and rinse aid and a good detergent and that machine will reward you will clean dishes. I find it very easy to load and it does hold alot. Dont let the racks size decieve you. It holds alot and it is very flexible. More so than any other dishwasher I have ever used. The silverware tray takes no time at all getting used to. It also will make sense to you as well.

Passed up :)

Hi Mike,

Yea I did decide to go with the W3033, even though it is smaller capacity. I really wanted the more classic look, vs the new modern 4000 series. And our local dealer did not have the units plugged in. In fact, you could barely get to the machines because they had the entire Miele applaince showroom floor they have cluttered with all sorts of crap. While the W4000 are still very nice machines, I really did not like the door on it. (W3033 has the electronic door button, 4000 series does not). I am so freaking excited... Going to try and get the laundry room textured this weekend. Trying to have it done before I order the matching T8003 Vented dryer. :)
