whoa... poppy red SQ coin op!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Hi Eric, that's a very cool find! Its actually from the 70's and its not poppy, but it looks somene painted the lower cabinet red. If you look closely at the porcelain top you can see its actually orange. SQ had produced both Orange and Apple Green coin-op washers in the 70's. Its a solid basket washer and it should be saved by someone in the NY area. It's a great washer, I belive its still of the solenoid design, but I don't know that for sure.

Opps, Sorry, I'm Wrong

Never mind, forget everything I just said above. I though it was older until I looked at the actual ad, duh. I'm am very surprised to see that SQ made orange coin-ops into the perforated tub years!

Early 80's, I remember those caps on the agitators that guided the user as to how full to pack the clothes in.

It almost looks like it was painted - see the red splotches around the corners of the top, which seems to be a different shade altogether...

Still, not a bad deal for $50

load sizing agitator

i had many of these machines from speed queen, although mine were all harvest gold. the writing on that "thing" on the agitator said not to load above this level. i believe these were the first series of the perforated tub coin-ops by speed queen. they kept this basic design for a long time until they went to the direct drive pump. they changed the timer to a positive start timer with the coin slide in the "wa" series. these machines would not start if the customer did not push the coin slide in completely.

I remember the SQ coin laundries with alternating avocado and orange washers with the big round SQ medalion on the front panel. Like so much late 60s-early 70s "decor?" "styling?" it was something that had been runover by the ugly truck which then backed up over it to see what it had hit before continuing forward.
